THEMATIC PRIMARY ENGLISH CLASSES

Our English program adopts a thematic approach to encompass language acquisition and mastery for students at the primary level. The themes are thoughtfully designed, which ranges from day to day topics like "Journey" or "Newspaper" to topics like "Mystery/Detectives" or "Mythology". Classes are multi-modal focus, which means vital techniques and skills like reading comprehension, creative writing, presentation, listening and speaking are all embedded in the program.

Themes Covered

  1. Journey - Students will explore the far reaches of the global and work to broaden their vocabulary through descriptive speaking and writing. Students will learn to write their own travel journal. 

  2. Mystery - Students take on the role of a detective, attempting to solve a mystery and work on their grammar and correct formation of questions. They will also be required to write a witness report. 

  3. Restaurant - In this theme students will look at menus and recipes of international cuisine. They will also learn about the culture and stories of different countries. 

  4. Stage and Screen - Students will be exposed to a range of play scripts. They will also have a chance to act in class with other classmates. 

  5. Newspaper - Students will read some authentic newspaper articles about real world events. There will be discussion in class to raise  awareness to world affairs. Students will also write a letter to the editor to express their views on some social problems. 

  6. Culture and Tradition - In this theme, students learn about several different world cultures and their unique traditions and focus on writing, creating their own folklore stories and original recipes for example.

  7. Ancient History -  Students will learn about the lives of people like the ancient Egyptians and the Romans. Students will also work on their reading and comprehension skills.

  8. Genre Exploration - Students examine several literary genres and work to adapt their writing skills to each unique style.

  9. Mythology - Mythology, particularly the stories from Ancient Greek mythology, play an important role in English literature. During these lessons, students will examine mythology from around the world, discussing its meaning and influence, as well as writing their own mythological stories.

  10. The Science of Space - After spending a number of lessons looking at the world around us, students will look to what is beyond the planet. Students will, again, come into contact with different forms of writing and will broaden their reading and writing abilities.

  11. Inventors and Inventions - In this theme, students will learn about and discuss some of the key inventions in the history of humankind. Students will also design and present their own invention to their peers, just like Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell before them.

  12. Story - Students look at the essential make up of stories and work to write their own complete short story.
